Relation to Theme: Quoted directly from my bibliography
My topic relates to the 2012-2013 National History Day theme
“Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, and Events” because the tragedy of the
Titanic inspired regulations in maritime safety dealing with lifeboats, radio
transmissions, ice patrol, alarms, distress rockets, and more which forever
changed the quality of safety on oceangoing vessels. These regulations have
saved countless lives on maritime vessels. The sinking of the Titanic and the
revisions inspired by it are a turning point in history because they allowed
governments to realize how much their maritime safety was lacking. The regulations
that came after the Titanic forced ship owners to take accountability for the lives
of their passengers. This realization had positive effects on the safe guarding measures
enforced and changed the course of history by saving thousands of lives.
