General History

Picture
The Titanic was a Royal Mail Ship and luxury liner for the White Star Line. Its maiden voyage began April 10, 1912. The ship sank after hitting an iceberg (April 15, 1912).  Public receptions to the advertisements for the Titanic which boasted "practically unsinkable" led to the misconceptions of the passengers that the ship could not sink.
